M Systems successfully implements database replication solution |
|
As the hurricane season arrives in the East Coast of the United States, disaster recovery preparedness becomes a more important topic among businesses. M Systems recently implemented a database replication based disaster recovery preparedness solution for one of the utility management organizations in North Carolina.
The server that houses electrical utility data at this organization now has a secondary backup server located in Canada, with data being replicated within seconds. M Systems utilized the new High Availability Replication (HDR) enhancements in Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) in planning and implementing this setup. A Remote Standalone Secondary (RSS) server was used to house the replicated copy of the data. This type of server is typically the best choice for geographically distant backup servers. Both the performance as well as the data availability of both servers have been excellent. IDS 11.50 software is running on Suse Linux servers in this setup.
